Press Releases after the end of the 2014 Circuit
A total of 58 outstanding performances were recognized with Circuit Championship titles at the close of this year’s Vermont Summer Festival. The six-week hunter, jumper and equitation competition is the richest sporting event based on purse in the state of Vermont.
Week 6 - Vermont Summer Celebration
Jennifer Bliss played to Poker Face’s strengths to win the $15,000 3’3” NEHJA Hunter Derby, presented by Land Rover Experience, during the sixth and final week of the Vermont Summer Festival.
Peter Lutz made his first appearance at this year’s Vermont Summer Festival count, taking home the win in the $10,000 Brooks Brothers Welcome Stake during the final week of the Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT.
The Vermont Summer Festival proudly hosted TAKE2 Thoroughbred competition, awarding championships to both hunter and jumper disciplines. Held over four weeks, the TAKE2 divisions hosted 3’ hunter competition and 1m jumper competition.
Week 5 - Manchester & the Mountains Horse Show
Julie Welles of Wellington, FL, and Warren, VT, rode Twan to first place in the $10,000 Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Welcome Stake, presented by Manchester Designer Outlets, on Thursday, July 31, at the Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT.
Week 4 - Valley Classic Horse Show
Kathryn Callaghan of Long Island, NY, and Gentle Red won the $1,500 Marshall & Sterling Children’s Jumper Classic on Sunday, July 27, at the Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT.
Five-time Olympian Manuel Torres of Colombia and Cinderella won the $30,000 Mount Equinox Grand Prix, presented by Purina Horse Feed, on Saturday, July 26, at the Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT.
The Vermont Summer Festival hosted World Championship Hunter Rider (WCHR) week, showcasing several of the country’s top hunter riders and horses, from July 16 to 20.
Week 3 - Manchester Classic Horse Show
Elle Young of Salina, KS, took home the Adirondack – Green Mountain Challenge title on Saturday, July 12, at the Vermont Summer Festival. Young rode to first place in the Small Junior Hunter 16-17 division aboard Boris.
Week 2 - Manchester Summer Festival Horse Show
Lainie Wimberly rode Choco Mousse to the first hunter derby victory of the horse’s career, taking home the blue ribbon the $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby held Thursday evening, July 1.
Courtney O’Connell, 23, has been a competitor at the Vermont Summer Festival since she was eight years old. She’s returned faithfully each year to Vermont but now tailors her show schedule around busy days interning for veterinarian Dr. Robert Barber.

Kristen Bumpus of Concord, MA, claimed the first $5,000 3’3” NEHJA Hunter Derby of the six-week Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT.
