Week 6 - Vermont Summer Celebration
Vermont Summer Festival Congratulates 2013 Circuit Champions – August 13, 2013 – More than 50 deserving athletes were awarded Circuit Championship titles at the close of this year’s Vermont Summer Festival. Offering more than $750,000 in prize money, the six-week equestrian competition is the richest sporting event based on purse in the state of Vermont.
Colombia’s Mark Bluman Tops $10,000 Sir Ruly, Inc., Open Jumper Awards – August 12, 2013 – Colombia’s Mark Bluman, 22, closed out the Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT, on a high note after winning the $10,000 Sir Ruly, Inc., Open Jumper Awards with 137 points. As the leading rider at this year’s event, Bluman was awarded a $5,000 bonus.
Alissa Kinsey and Grisset Conquer $15,000 Vermont Celebration Child/Adult Jumper Classic – August 11, 2013 – Alissa Kinsey of Danville, NH, and her own Grisset captured the $15,000 Vermont Celebration Child/Adult Jumper Classic on Sunday, August 11. Kinsey and Grisset had also emerged victorious a day earlier in Saturday’s $2,500 NAL/WIHS Adult Amateur Jumper Classic.
Emily Short Provides Grand Finale for $50,000 Vermont Summer Festival Grand Prix – August 10, 2013 – Twenty-year-old Emily Short of Cheswick, PA, and the aptly named Grande Finale 3E won the grand finale of the 2013 Vermont Summer Festival. A starting field of 28 entries lined out for the final grand prix of the Vermont Summer Festival’s six-week circuit.
Colombia’s Mark Bluman Scores Third Welcome Stake Victory – August 9, 2013 – Mark Bluman was in the winner’s circle yet again after topping the $10,000 Theory Welcome Stake, on August 8. The win marked Bluman’s third $10,000 Welcome Stake victory of the circuit after winning during week one with G&C Lagran and week five with G&C Blue.
McKayla Langmeier and Czar-Z Rule Again in $15,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby – August 8, 2013 – McKayla Langmeier of East Granby, CT, left the veterans in the dust as the 13-year-old collected the top prize in the $15,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby. The win marked the second in a row for Langmeier and Czar-Z having also won last week’s $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby.
Sir Ruly, Inc., Open Jumper Awards Pay Tribute to Raul Torano – August 7, 2013 – For the past seven years, the Sir Ruly, Inc. Open Jumper Awards have offered $10,000 in cash bonuses to the top show jumping riders of the Vermont Summer Festival. Originally started by Raul “Ruly” Torano, uncle of U.S. grand prix rider Jimmy Torano, the awards now continue as a legacy of his incredible generosity.
Week 5 - Manchester & the Mountains Horse Show
Charlotte Jacobs Claims Classic Victory at Vermont Summer Festival – August 4, 2013 – Charlotte Jacobs jumped to the top of the $10,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame High Junior/Amateur-Owner Jumper Classic with Promised Land. Eighteen-year-old Jacobs also grabbed the second place prize aboard her own Kachina.
Catherine Tyree Clinches First Grand Prix Victory with Sandor de la Pomme – August 3, 2013 – Nineteen-year-old Catherine Tyree claimed the first grand prix victory of her career with Sandor de la Pomme in the $30,000 Manchester and the Mountains Grand Prix, presented by Purina Horse Feed. Sandor de la Pomme is an 11-year-old Belgian Warmblood gelding owned by Mary Tyree.
McKayla Langmeier and Czar-Z Reign Over $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby in Vermont – August 2, 2013 – Thirteen-year-old McKayla Langmeier and Czar-Z added another hunter derby win to their record after topping the $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby on Thursday evening, August 1. The pair collected the first hunter derby victory of their career during the 2011 Vermont Summer Festival.
Mark Bluman and G&C Blue Win $10,000 Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Welcome Stake for Second Consecutive Year – August 1, 2013 – Mark Bluman clinched another victory in the $10,000 Not Your Daughter’s Jeans Welcome Stake with G&C Blue. The pair was also victorious in the same class during the 2012 Vermont Summer Festival.
Vermont Summer Festival Provides Equitation "Boot Camp" for Medal Finals Hopefuls – July 31, 2013 – Riders who grew up competing on the Vermont Summer Festival circuit have gone on to win the nation’s most prestigious equitation finals, including the ASPCA Maclay Medal, USEF Show Jumping Talent Search, and the Pessoa/USEF National Hunter Seat Medal.
Week 4 - Valley Classic Horse Show
Cloe Hymowitz Goes Two for Two in $5,000 NAL Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic – July 28, 2013 – 16-year-old Cloe Hymowitz collected her second victory in a row in the $5,000 Low Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic held Sunday, July 28. Having claimed victory one week earlier with Caleta, Hymowitz returned during week four to again take the win riding Bon Vivant.
Hillary Simpson and Arkansas Race to First Place in $30,000 Mt. Equinox Grand Prix – July 27, 2013 – Hillary Simpson piloted the 10-year-old Thoroughbred gelding Arkansas to victory in the $30,000 Mount Equinox Grand Prix Saturday afternoon. Simpson, along with Danielle Torano, was one of only two double clear rounds.
First Time's a Charm for Lyman T. Whitehead and Carabello in $5,000 Hunter Derby – July 26, 2013 – Lyman T. Whitehead and Carabello found their way to the winner’s circle on Thursday evening, July 25, in the $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby. It was the first time Carabello had ever competed in a derby class, proving he was more than up to the task.
Catherine Tyree and Sandor de la Pomme Win $10,000 Overland Sheepskin Welcome Stake – July 25, 2013 – Catherine Tyree and her newly acquired mount, Sandor de la Pomme, secured their first victory together in the $10,000 Overland Sheepskin Company Welcome Stake. Tyree’s win came in only her third time competing with Sandor de la Pomme, an 11-year-old Belgian Sport Horse gelding.
Vermont Summer Festival is Tradition for Leone and Torano Families – July 24, 2013 – For many competitors of the Vermont Summer Festival, riding is a family affair. The Leone and Torano families have forged a tight-knit bond from their annual pilgrimage to Harold Beebe Farm that is part horse show, part family vacation.
Week 3 - Manchester Classic Horse Show
Steege and Stewart Dominate World Championship Hunter Rider Week – July 22, 2013 – World Championship Hunter Rider competition took place throughout the third week of the Vermont Summer Festival and Amanda Steege and Scott Stewart claimed tri-colors for themselves and their students.
Danielle Torano Captures Second Consecutive $10,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame Classic – July 21, 2013 – Danielle Torano and Capitano rose to the top of the $10,000 Show Jumping Hall of Fame High Junior/Amateur-Owner Classic during week three of the Vermont Summer Festival. Torano won the class last week with Cachaca 4 before bringing Capitano out of retirement for the win this Sunday.
Devin Ryan and Zosja Triumph in $30,000 Otter Creek Grand Prix in Vermont – July 20, 2013 – Devin Ryan and Zosja were declared the winners of the $30,000 Otter Creek Grand Prix on Saturday afternoon at the Vermont Summer Festival. Ryan and Zosja were the only double-clear round of the day, laying down a steady and careful second round to secure them the victory.
Jennifer Bauersachs Seriously Dominates $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby in Vermont – July 19, 2013 – Jennifer Bauersachs guided Seriously to his first hunter derby victory on Thursday evening. Bauersachs and Seriously claimed the win with a final two-round score of 170 while Whitehead finished two points behind with 168.
Cory Hardy and Camelot 105 Clinch First Big Win in $10,000 Marimekko Welcome Stake – July 18, 2013 – Cory Hardy and Commonwealth Ventures’ Camelot 105 rode to the top of the $10,000 Marimekko Welcome Stake, presented by Manchester Designer Outlets. Hardy and Camelot 105 were one of only two double clear rounds Thursday afternoon.
Linda Orton Takes Top Honors in TAKE2 Thoroughbred Hunter Championship at the Vermont Summer Festival – July 17, 2013 – Linda Orton and her own Top Honors were awarded the hunter championship title during the inaugural week of TAKE2 Thoroughbred classes at the Vermont Summer Festival. Top Honors nearly swept the division, collecting blue ribbons in all but one class.
Week 2 - Manchester Summer Festival Horse Show
Thea Chafee Claims Adirondack-Green Mountain Challenge at the Vermont Summer Festival – July 15, 2013 – Thea Chafee was crowned the winner of the fourth annual Adirondack-Green Mountain Challenge. The award counts points for horse-rider combinations competing during the two-week Skidmore College Saratoga Classic Horse Shows and the first two weeks of the Vermont Summer Festival.
Ava Lindsay and Commander Tom Capture Jumper Classic Win at Vermont Summer Festival – July 14, 2013 – Ava Lindsay had plenty to celebrate Sunday afternoon after winning the $2,500 Marshall and Sterling Adult Amateur Jumper Classic with Commander Tom. Lindsay, also finished third with All in One.
Peter Wylde Clinches Back-to-Back Grand Prix Victories at Vermont Summer Festival – July 13, 2013 – Olympian Peter Wylde and Lewin 5 sped to their second Grand Prix win in a row in the $30,000 Battenkill Grand Prix, presented by Johnson Horse Transportation. Wylde edged out student Agatha D’Ambra and Udiana for the first place finish.
Caitlin Venezia and Comex Gold Claim $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby in Vermont – July 12, 2013 – Caitlin Venezia piloted Comex Gold to first place in the $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby during the second week of competition at the Vermont Summer Festival. They earned a combined score of 172, finishing the class ten points ahead of the competition.
Michael Dorman and Zephyr Can't be Caught in $10,000 Vineyard Vines Welcome Stake – July 11, 2013 – Michael Dorman and Zephyr, a nine-year-old Dutch Warmblood, breezed into first place in the $10,000 Vineyard Vines Welcome Stake, presented by Manchester Designer Outlets.
Equitation Tuesdays are a Hit at the Vermont Summer Festival – July 10, 2013 – John Porter and Kennebec took home blue ribbons in the Taylor Harris Insurance Services National Children’s Medal during both weeks one and two in addition to earning top honors in the Pessoa/USEF National Hunter Seat Medal during Equitation Tuesday.

Carly Morrison and Wendy Collins Claim Sunday Classics in Vermont – July 7, 2013 – Canada’s Carly Morrison and Connecticut’s Wendy Collins were the two big winners in the Amateur-Owner Jumper Classics on Sunday, July 7, at the Vermont Summer Festival.
Olympic Gold Medalist Peter Wylde Wins $30,000 Vermont Grand Prix – July 6, 2013 – Peter Wylde, a veteran of the United States Equestrian Team, made his first trip to Manchester, VT a winning one by claiming victory in the $30,000 Vermont Summer Special Grand Prix.
Samantha Schaefer Scores Vermont Hunter Derby Victory – July 5, 2013 – Samantha Schaefer of Westminster, Maryland, celebrated the Fourth of July by winning the first $5,000 NEHJA Hunter Derby of the six-week Vermont Summer Festival in East Dorset, VT.
Colombia’s Mark Bluman Receives Warm Welcome in Vermont – July 4, 2013 – A total of 10 horse-rider combinations jumped clear in the opening round of the $10,000 Open Welcome Stake, presented by Manchester Designer Outlets, and three of those horses were ridden by eventual winner, Mark Bluman.
